Throwback Thursday: 10 Years of Kanye West's Graduation
10 years ago Kanye West released his third studio album Graduation. It's the last album in West's education themed thrilogy including College Dropout and Late Registration. Graduation debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200. Celebrate the anniversary and revisit some of the best songs from the album:
1. Can't Tell Me Nothing
"Can't Tell Me Nothing" is the lead single from Graduation. The track was nominated for Best Rap Song at the 50th Grammy Awards, but lost to another song......on the same album!
2. Good Life
This track beat Kanye's "Can't Tell Me Nothing" for Best Rap Song at the Grammys. It samples Michael Jackson's "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" and features T-Pain. "Good Life" is arguably considered a classic track from West and also one of his most memorable music videos. The video won "Best Hip Hop Video" at the BET Awards and an award for "Best Special Effects in a Video" at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Also one of Kanye's most memorable tracks, "Stronger" is another single from Graduation. The track sample's Daft Punks "Harder, Better Faster, Stronger." Let's not forget the video also intoduced the world to "shutter shades"!
4. Flashing Lights
"Flashing Lights" served as the fourth single from Graduation. It was co-written and co-produced by one of Kanye's frequent collaborators Eric Hudson. Fans consider "Flashing Lights" as one of the best song son the album.
Kanye wrote "Homecoming" as a tribute to his hometown Chicago. The song features Chris Martin, the lead singer of Coldplay. It was released as the final single from the album. The music video, directed by Hype Williams, was shot in Chicago and features many landmarks and monuments in the city.
